Can I just say how wonderful and imaginative this menu is? We came on a Monday night and had a quiet dinner on the front patio while trivia was going on in the courtyard area. The food is amazing!! I can't recommend highly enough the Mac and cheese starter. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive! Don't miss it!

I was excited to try this place with a few friends because we were sick of the more popular places, i.e. Dave's Last Resort, and this place got pretty good reviews. The ambience seemed pretty cool, but we got here at around 7:30 on a Wednesday so it wasn't exactly packed. We all sat out on the patio, which is where all the customers were. The inside area was deserted and hot, like the AC wasn't working. They had a pretty disappointing craft beer list, and two of the beers our group ordered were not available. When the food came out, most of the dishes we received weren't great. My friends pulled pork tasted chemically altered, fries were either undercooked or overcooked, and other members of my party didn't care much for their dishes. My food wasn't bad at all, but I think I got lucky. Our server was nice and accommodating, but he messed up a few times. He brought me the wrong beer and he accidentally messed a few things up with our food, for instance bringing sweet potato fries instead of regular. Fairly minor, but it was annoying. As for the clientele, there definitely seemed like there were a few salty patrons at the bar, but we were seated by a table in the back of the patio so no complaints there. All in all, my friends hated the place way more, but I think if I ever do go back I'll just have some drinks and skip the food.

Let me tell you my story of South Shores and how it grew on me to the extent of being one of my favorite bars. My first visit to South Shores came probably a year or so ago. The girlfriend and I were in Lake Worth and wanted to get some drinks. I had heard from people that South Shores was a good hang out with a decent selection of beer. So we decided to give it a try. We walked inside and I felt like we were walking into a locals only hang out. It had a sort of cleaned up dive feel. There were a few tables filled with people playing trivia, a couple playing pool and a few barflies sitting up on the bar. The bartender was super nice though I haven't seen her since. I felt bad for her because one of the guys at the bar was making drunken comments about her name, Angel. I don't think he meant the words to sound the way they did but he was pretty much implying that he thought her name was a stripper name. Poor girl. They did have a few craft beers on tap including Florida locals from Due South and Cigar City. And their pricing was pretty good for drinks too. We just sat there and were thinking, "Man, this place is weird. Part of me wants to come back and another part doesn't." Ah but how naive we were for we weren't seeing South Shores for everything that it is. In a way, we too were judging South Shore in the same way the barfly was judging Angel. A few months after that we were going to be doing the Lake Worth Pub Crawl during American Craft Beer Week and it started at South Shores. We were meeting some friends up there, who had said they were already there, but when we walked in we couldn't find them. I quick phone call and they told us to come out back. Out back? Head around to the left inside and you will hit a door that leads outside to a back patio area. "Holy shit!" we thought. "This was back here the entire time?" There is a small stage with plants and flowers lining the fences and surrounded by a number of tables. There is a covered bar out there as well with some more beers on tap. It truly is a whole new world out there. We hung out and had a beer before moving on to the next bar for the night but wow. South Shores was really cool. So we went back. This time we sat at the outside bar and had dinner. Service was once again really nice and quick. They have a pretty good sized menu that is sort of bar food with a twist. Many items have a sort of island feel to them with salsa, hot sauces and the such. I have had the Junkyard Chips, think homemade chips with nachos fixings, and the Chipotle BBQ Pork Sliders. Both very good and filling. Prices are the middle of the road with most dishes being between $10-$15. They usually have live music playing out back on the stage and you can usually do some good people watching as there are some pretty good characters that show up. I have become a fan of South Shores. It's a fun place to hang out with friends, have a bit to eat and enjoy some drinks in a relaxed setting.

Loved it!!! It's like sitting in a friend's backyard/patio on a beautiful Winter night in FLORIDA!!! Loved the outdoor venue with patio tables set up around the periphery of their well kept garden. There is a stage set up for a live band (Route Bleu was playing last night). There is a bar outside for patrons dining in the patio area. Inside: pool tables, an indoor bar, booths and tables. The menu is extensive, everything from seafood to burgers to delicious wings and reasonable prices as well!! A special event brought my party of 4 there yesterday; we enjoyed watermelon mojitos and yuengling (sp?) beers, cider beers, delicious food, good music and the cool breeze... I loved the entire experience, it was low-key but quite enjoyable. If the SoFla weather permits and you are looking for an enjoyable vibe, do sit outside, do drink a watermelon mojito and do bring a friend :)

Southshore is one of our go to spots in down town Lake Worth. First, the pros, they often have great music, the back garden areas is an awesome spot to sit and enjoy a local band. But, I feel like this place has a multiple personality disorder. It has gone through many changes, some quite good, in the 8+ years we have been going there. The food had a major upgrade a couple of years ago, but now I feel like they have slipped and what used to be fresh and different is not so great now and they seemed to have gone back to deep fried everything. I had fish and chips recently and it was so overfried and had a weird taste that I couldn't eat it. The inside space has been cleaned up, which is good, but again I'm not sure what they are going for in the inside space. This is not a fine dining place so it seems weird that they have white table clothes. Staff, they can be great. Current staff is nice, but the manager lady is hot and cold. Our old favorite wait staff is gone. We used to have a gal who was great, quick and knew our favorites, but she left. Drinks, again some weirdness. They seem to be moving to craft beers and what they describe as craft liquors. Want an Absolute and tonic, nope. Want a Capt. and diet, nope. I ended up ordering Tito's vodka, which is great, but its expensive and seems a travesty to mix Tito's with tonic. To sum it up, they seem to be in transition.

Go to the back patio!!!!! Live bands: blues/local/open mic.. just great music while you drink some beers and eat a burger and fries while you hang out with good friends. Super friendly service AND you can bring your dog! THIS place is what Lake Worth is all about!

I was invited to South Shores for a party several months ago, had no idea what to expect. They have an indoor bar, a couple of pool tables, jukebox and a wide variety of regulars who add a lot of character to this place. I didn't have anything to eat as of yet, but have heard some good things and will do that soon. I do know they have some great specials. Entertainment-wise, some great bands play on the back patio, each time I have stopped through I've heard some great sounds. There's ample room for dancing if you feel the mood hit ya. If you plan to pay with a card, there is a $10 minimum, I usually pay in cash. One good thing, no cover for any of the bands. They also have Newcastle, one of my favorites. There's also a patio in front, so there's always a different view to people watch, who can range across the board. Bartender Billy met me once and is very friendly, always has a smile and a handshake. All the staff are cool, this really is the closest you can get to the type of place you would find in Key West. Ask for Billy, he'll treat you right. I read some previous reviews, believe me, no one tried to rob me during any time I have been there.

Always stop by when I'm in the Palm Beach area. Their music is good and there always seems to be something interesting like trivia going on there. This past time was the first tried their food... it was delicious. I am always served well there and know I will stop back next time I'm in town.

This place has really changed - for the better. Highlights of our visit last week: quality food, decent craft beer selection, and a friendly waitress. Still has the great outdoor seating. The back is a loud, busy bar, often with a band. The front patio is quiet and excellent for people watching. I had the meatloaf, big portion. The chef crisped up the outside, delicious. My friend had the grouper and couldn't stop talking about how good it was. The dessert selection was nice and we gladly indulged since our meals were so reasonably priced at $15 or less. They have a few craft beers which is great. Hope they add even more. Always looking for local beer : )

Depends on when you go, but a while back I had such a great time listening to a jazz band there, what I liked was a mixture of the crowd and no pretentious types, which makes it great for just being to yourself or friends and where you can really listen to the music, what I also like is the people out back and there for the music, but if its not the right music you may not like it, like a Rock N Roll band will bring in too much low life.

I agree with the other poster that the clientele is hilariously questionable. The food (french inion soup, grouper sandwich) was pretty good and the bartender was great- very friendly, very attentive. Between the drunk guy in a tie-dyed shirt who started cheering for 4:20, and the trashy women (who I'm fairly certain were castoffs from "Rock of Love") drinking house wine through a straw with Jager chasers, we were thoroughly entertained.

a little over a year ago, you could find us at a table in the back patio area of south shores every friday night for our regular 'burgers & beer'. we loved the food, loved the live music, and loved the community we felt there. then it all went to hell in a hand-basket. the food became unpredictable and then just outright bad. the service declined and we (still rather reluctantly) took south shores off our list of places to go. today, i was craving a cheeseburger something fierce. we talked about it and decided to give south shores another go. i mean really - where else can you go eat food and sing and dance along with slip & the spin outs, wholly cats, and other great acts?? i am SO pleased to say that south shores has redeemed itself! we went early in the afternoon, so no bands were setting up yet, but the food and the service were excellent!! the burger was just how i remembered it (before the horrendous time, of which we shall never again speak). our server was new and really excellent. THIS is the south shores i remember and want to frequent again! thank you for coming back to us - these two locals will soon become regulars again!! (3 stars for now - i'm optimistic but also cautious. i'll review again after subsequent visits!)

Although the food and service is not bad, the clientele is questionable. As we sat outside enjoying our food and beer, there was an older man who was wasted not far from us. The entire time we were there he was yelling and hacking. I wanted to order him an oxygen tank. He invited some random toothless guy off the street over to hang out. Random toothless guy then proceeded to chat to everyone and sit down with people he didn't know. Not much later, other strange drunks entered and made crass comments to all the women sitting down on the way to their table. Waiter tried to ignore everything as I assume this was normal behavior here. Good times...
